The Learning Behind the Learning

If I have witnessed one thing in my years as an adult education professional, it is that in a corporate training department, employees need to wear many hats, including those in what is usually known as Learning Operations.

I have participated in learning operational areas for most of my career. From classroom setup to designing spaces for maximum learning efficiency, there are few areas in learning operations that I have not touched. Below please find some highlights.

Classroom Management

  • Building out classrooms in new spaces or buildings
  • Setting up classes for learning events
  • Installing computers within classrooms
  • Creating learning spaces within conference rooms

Class and Course Operations

  • Setting up seating, projectors and screens for effective temporary classrooms
  • Connecting computers, projectors, and printers
  • Assuring wireless or wired internet availability and testing system capabilities
  • Ensure the available of files for student download
  • Administering web conference tools like WebEx and Zoom to ensure effective virtual learning
  • Working with vendors to produce class materials

Learning Management

  • Administering Learning Management Systems such as Taleo, Oracle and Gyrus AIM
  • Instituting Learning Management Systems
  • Uploading SCORM courses on an LMS
  • Creation of learning plans
  • Creating, scheduling, and linking live learning events, both in-person and virtual
  • Web page design on an LMS
